In this week’s interview you can hear Mr Eric Johnston talk about his army life from joining the Royal Armoured Corps, training for the Normandy landings through to the German surrender. Mr Johnston served with the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards from 1942 to 1947.
Royal Dragoon Guards Oral History Project
This interview is part of a collection carried out by the Royal Dragoon Guards Oral History Project. The aim of the project was to record oral history interviews to provide a permanent record of the diverse experiences of members of the Regiment and its predecessors, the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards and the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards. Interviews include experiences in WW1, WW2, the Cold War, Palestine, Korea, Aden, Cyprus, Libya, Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan as well as stories of family life in the Army. This project was funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
